What I did: Today, I pulled out my manikin head from its box and just looked at it. Penny told me that to be able to cut hair, one must be familiar with the parts of the head. I emailed Penny about it and and did some research of my own. Some new terms that I was able to add to my dictionary include the following: crown, occipital protuberance, posterior hairline, nape, temporal hairline, apex of the temporal hairline, and trapezius.
Reflection: I’m fascinated by all the knowledge a hairstylist must have to be able to cut hair! It’s insanity! You’d think that parts of the head or degrees wouldn’t matter when cutting hair, but it really does! I feel like I learn something new about cosmetology each time I either talk to Penny about it or do research online.
