What I did: As I get closer and closer to actually cutting my manikin’s hair, I find myself getting more and more excited about actually going through with this. I spent a bunch of time with my project facilitator, Penny, learning about the tools that I will be using to cut the manikin’s hair and what cut we are going to do. I learned that I will cut the manikin’s hair with regular cutting scissors and use thinning shears at the very end to thin out the hair here and there. We decided that we are going to do a simple cut, which means the hair will be cut straight across with a side-swept bang in the front.

Reflection: It’s exciting! I keep telling Penny (PF) that I’m nervous, but she always seems to know what to say to excite me. I think what I am most nervous about is doing it wrong! I suppose I should stop worrying about that since Penny will be able to help me correct it if that were to happen.

Time: 2 hours

Total time: 7 hours and 15 minutes

This is what my manikin's hair will look like when I'm done! These are the scissors I will use to correct the cut at the very end!

Tuesday – 8 November 2011

What I did: Not having to come into school on Tuesday worked out perfectly and to my advantage. I’ve been needing a hair cut really bad, so I decided to give Penny a visit! As she cut my hair, we talked more about hair techniques and products. Penny introduced a new product to me, which I actually found interesting! The product was a root lifter, which you spray on the root of the hair to give it more volume. I learned that the longer the hair, the less volume it will have due to it heaviness. Penny gave me a magazine which I found interesting/fun to read through. It gave good insight on products which are good and healthy for the hair.

Reflection: I always enjoy being around Penny, and I love the fact that she is able to make it fun to learn. As she cut my hair, we talked about my manikin, which  we still haven’t started working on! I learned what sparked Penny’s interest in deciding to work with hair. She was able to tell me about the place she graduated from and how her State Board test went. She also told me her experiences with teaching, which I found interesting to hear about!

Time: 2 hours

This is the magazine that Penny provided for me to learn about the different hairstyles of 2011!
